ABOUT WORLD DANCE DAY

Developed in order to promote understanding and appreciation of dance culture from around the world, NSPA manages and hosts World Dance Cincinnati as part of the annual World Dance Day.  NSPA works closely with a close team of multi-cultural artists to share with the public the extraordinary range of dance studied and performed in the greater Cincinnati area.

Experiences like World Dance Day provide our community with an invaluable opportunity to learn more about one another’s cultures and to recognize our similarities and how they bind us together rather than focus on our differences.  This cross-cultural celebration is a powerful and uniquely American experience.  In the past, dancers have showcased traditional African, Balinese, Greek, and Hawaiian dance along with Latin Samba, Indian Bharathnatyam, and Arabic Zaffa.

Past partner organizations and artists include:

  • Bi-Okoto Drum and Dance (African Diaspora)
  • Heather Britten of dancefix
  • Carrie Atkins Maras of the Cincinnati Art Museum
  • Midwest Latino
  • The Indian Cultural Association
  • Gordon Haven
  • St. Ursula Theatre Dept.
  • ArtsWave
  • ArtWorks
  • The Academy of World Languages Elementary School and Cincinnati Public Schools
  • More

In 2018, World Dance Cincinnati brought together over 200 artists representing 16 counties onto one stage in Cincinnati.  In 2020, NSPA is planning World Dance Cincinnati to thematically celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Women’s Suffrage in the United States, including the influence and impact of suffragettes from across different ethnicities and cultures.
